Abstract depiction of creative energy flowing through a human

Unleashing Creativity | Can the law of entropy power art

Today, we explore the concept of entropy and how the thermodynamic law responsible for our universe’s creation shows up in human creativity and idea generation.

Entropy

Entropy is energy dispersion, the movement of energy from one thing to another.

The law states that the more chaotic a system is, the easier it is for free energy to flow through it. A more orderly system will receive this energy with resistance, and less will be transferred.

Without getting too deep into physics here, I want to explain how this fundamental law of energy flow happens in our creative endeavours.

Idea generation

As an idea shapes in our brain, hundreds of possibilities float around. We are exploring many alternatives, and here, the entropy is high.

This time is very chaotic, but it feels exciting as we experience much energy moving through the system. As we start to put pen to paper, hands to keyboard, paint to canvas. The idea starts to take shape. You are transferring your chaotic energy into another medium.

As the idea develops and you lock in the concept, your idea becomes more ordered. Reducing the chaos becomes harder and harder to iterate, making only tiny adjustments at a time.

Here, the energy is less and focused more. Maintaining the same energy level as in the beginning becomes more challenging as the options have been reduced.

All of our creative endeavours that begin in our minds are forms of energy flowing through our bodies into whatever medium we use.

Every human being is an energetic organism. We consume calories through food converted into glucose, stored as energy. We use this energy in many different ways, but the most prolific is the creative act our brains can accomplish.

Another fundamental law of thermodynamics and physics is the principle of energy conservation, which states that energy is neither created nor destroyed. It may only transform from one type to another.

Incredibly, we can transform thoughts into concepts, natural objects, principles and laws. All stored energy originates from the food we eat, the soil and the sun it was grown from.

Apply your energy well.

Now, whenever you take action, it may be best to remember this concept because the amount of energy from the sun is finite, so you may as well make good use of it. Check out how El Estepariano Siberiano’s philosophy could improve your results.

Human beings have tremendous potential. So, I will continue to reduce the entropy in my brain for humanity, creativity, and art.
